Description
This Confined Space Standby Refresher course is suitable for those that have previously completed Confined Space Standby Person Training and are required to renew their Statement of Attainment as an industry requirement and are currently working in a confined space.
This Nationally Recognised Confined Space Standby Refresher course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to Enter and Work in a Confined Space and perform the role of a Confined Space Standby Person.
This course does not include:
MSMWHS216 - Operate breathing apparatus
We offer this unit within our Confined Space - Operate Breathing Apparatus, which is a one day course.

PREREQUISITES & ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS
To enrol in this course participants must:
- You will be required to provide evidence of previously holding a Statement of Attainment for Confined Space Standby Person.
- You will be required to provide evidence of your current employment working in a confined space with a statement from your supervisor confirming your competence working in a confined space as a standby person.

- Be a minimum of 18 years of age
- Have a (USI)-Unique Student Identifier, please visit https://www.usi.gov.au/ if you do not have one
- Provide a copy of their photo identification (driver's licence, proof of age card, or passport)
- Demonstrate the ability to speak and write English to a basic level & have basic numeracy skills
- Be able to speak English well enough to carry out work safely with other people, please inform us upon registration if you feel you have any literacy or numeracy difficulties. Some reasonable adjustments to the course can be made to assist.
- Have the necessary levels of health and fitness to safely carry out work in a Confined Space
COURSE DURATION
- 1 Day
- 7.5 Hours Training and Assessment
PARTICIPANTS WILL NEED TO BRING
- Photo identification as listed in the prerequisites for this course
- Bring your food, free water, tea, coffee & biscuits are provided, you will be able to leave the facility during your lunch break if you wish
- PPE including protective footwear will be required to be worn for the practical training session, we have hard hats, high visibility vests, gloves & whistles available for use if required.
ASSESSMENT PROCESS
- The course will be a combination of theory & practical training where participants will be required to demonstrate industry skills & knowledge described in the units of competency included in this course.
- Students will be required to pass a written assessment to complete the course all critical components must be demonstrated and answered correctly
- Recognition of Prior Learning can be applied for Practical Assessment only. (See RPL below)
COURSE OUTCOME
Upon completion, participants deemed competent will be issued with a:
- Wallet size competency card
- Statement of attainment for:
- MSMPER200 - Work in Accordance with an Issued Permit
- MSMPER202 - Observe permit work
- MSMPER205 - Enter confined space
- RIIWHS202E - Enter and Work in Confined Spaces
- MSMWHS217 - Gas Test Atmospheres
- The certificate is nationally recognised within the Australian Qualifications Framework and issued under the authority of the National Vocational Education and Regulator Act 2011.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)
- RPL can be applied to the Practical Assessment tasks only. To qualify for the reduced duration of this course, students are required to complete an application for RPL for the performance assessment tasks for this unit.
- RPL will only be approved for students who are currently working in a confined space and can provide evidence via a third party reference.
- RPL applications will require third party referee (direct supervisor of the student) to provide evidence the student has met the performance assessment requirements for this unit within the last 6 months.
- The RPL application can be requested via email when registering and will be required to be returned to IWP, complete with supporting evidence before a registration into this course will be approved.
