Description

To work as a safety observer/spotter for plant operating near power lines, non-electrical workers in Australia must complete the UETDREL006 – Work Safely in the Vicinity of Live Electrical Apparatus training course, which is a mandatory requirement in many states like NSW and aligns with the SafeWork Code of Practice. 

This course provides the essential knowledge to identify electrical hazards, understand Safe Approach Distances (SADs), maintain clear communication, and implement control measures to ensure workplace safety around overhead power lines. 

 This course can be tailored to suit your company's specific training requirements. This Course has a large focus on safety procedures and practical scenarios relevant to the National Occupational Health & Safety Certification Standards.

 

COURSE TOPICS 

  • Understanding the relevant legislation and industry codes of practice
  • Understanding how electricity is distributed,
  • Functions of different electrical hardware and voltages. 
  • Recognize the potential dangers associated with live electrical apparatus
  • Comprehending and applying the minimum safe approach distances (SAD)
  • Developing strategies to safely prepare work zones and maintain clearances. 
  • Establishing effective communication protocols
  • Emergency Response

 

PREREQUISITES & HRW LICENCE ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS 

To enrol in this course participants must:

  • Be a minimum of 18 years of age
  • Have a (USI)-Unique Student Identifier, please visit https://www.usi.gov.au/ if you do not have one
  • Provide a copy of their photo identification (driver's licence, proof of age card, or passport)
  • Demonstrate the ability to speak and write English to a basic level & have basic numeracy skills
  • Be able to speak English well enough to carry out work safely with other people.

 

LLND

  • When enrolling into this course you will be required to complete a pre-enrolment LLND quiz which takes around 10 mins to complete. You will be issued the link to complete this quiz when applying to enrol for this course.
  • Please inform us when enrolling if you feel you have any literacy or numeracy difficulties and we can arrange for suitable training and assessment support.
  • We can provide one on one training and assessment for approved students, please enquire about this option with our admin team before enrolling into this course. 

 

COURSE DURATION

  • 6.5 Hours

 

PARTICIPANTS WILL NEED TO BRING

  • Candidates will be required to bring one approved photo ID along to their assessment to have their identity verified by the Assessor
  • Bring your own food, free water, tea, coffee & biscuits are provided, you will be able to leave the facility during your lunch break if you wish
  • PPE including protective footwear will be required to be worn for the practical training sessions and the SafeWork NSW assessment, we have hard hats, high visibility vests, gloves & whistles available for use if required.

 

ASSESSMENT PROCESS

  • The course will be a combination of theory & practical training where participants will be required to demonstrate industry skills & knowledge described in the units of competency included in this course.
  • Students will be required to pass a written assessment to complete the course all critical components must be demonstrated and answered correctly

 

COURSE OUTCOME

On successful completion of the SafeWork NSW assessment, participants will be given a:

  • Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for 
    • UETDREL006 – Work Safely in the Vicinity of Live Electrical Apparatus
  • Recognised within the Australian Qualifications Framework and issued under the authority of the National Vocational Education and Regulator Act 2011
