Description
This nationally accredited course emphasises safety and efficiency, covering everything from the basics of crane components and pre-operational checks to lifting techniques and safe work practices specific to non-slewing cranes. With a mix of theory and hands-on exercises, you’ll gain the skills and confidence to operate a non-slewing crane in compliance with industry standards
COURSE TOPICS
- Legislation & WHS Compliance: Understanding workplace safety laws, operator licensing obligations, and site procedures
- Pre-operational Inspections: Conducting start-up checks, checking lifting gear, and identifying faults or defects before operating
- Lift Planning & Hazard Identification: Estimating load weights, interpreting load charts, and managing hazards such as overhead powerlines, ground conditions, and nearby personnel
- Crane Operations: Safely setting up the crane and operating all functions (like telescoping and hoisting) to the maximum safe working rated capacity, articulation and travel
- Load Handling & Movement: Practicing safe lifting techniques, maintaining load stability, and moving loads near the ground while minimizing swing.
- Mobiling a Load: Learning techniques for steering, driving, and safely manoeuvring the crane with a suspended load
- Communication: Coordinating with doggers, riggers, and spotters using radios and standard hand signals
- Emergency Procedures: Responding to equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or unexpected incidents safely.
PREREQUISITES & HRW LICENCE ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS
To enrol in this course participants must:
- Be a minimum of 18 years of age

Candidates will be required to bring one approved photo ID along to their assessment to have their identity verified by the Assessor
- Demonstrate the ability to speak and write English to a basic level & have basic numeracy skills
- Be able to speak English well enough to carry out high-risk work safely with other people.
LLND
- When enrolling into this course you will be required to complete a pre-enrolment LLND quiz which takes around 10 mins to complete. You will be issued the link to complete this quiz when applying to enrol for this course.
- Please inform us when enrolling if you feel you have any literacy or numeracy difficulties and we can arrange for suitable training and assessment support.
- We can provide one on one training and assessment for approved students, please enquire about this option with our admin team before enrolling into this course.
COURSE DURATION
- 5 Days
- 37 hours face to face training, 2.5 hours Knowledge Written Assessment and 2 hours per candidate, Performance Assessment
- 1 Day SafeWork HRWL Assessment
PARTICIPANTS WILL NEED TO BRING
- Candidates will be required to bring one approved photo ID along to their assessment to have their identity verified by the Assessor
- Bring your own food, free water, tea, coffee & biscuits are provided, you will be able to leave the facility during your lunch break if you wish
- PPE including protective footwear will be required to be worn for the practical training sessions and the SafeWork NSW assessment, we have hard hats, high visibility vests, gloves & whistles available for use if required.

There have been some important changes to how you will need to prepare for and obtain your SafeWork HRW Licence.
Please ensure candidates read through the course instructions carefully, these are sent via email once your registration is approved.
ASSESSMENT PROCESS
- The course is based on the requirements of the national standards for licencing persons performing high-risk work, the training will be a combination of knowledge, calculations & practical training where participants will be required to demonstrate industry skills & knowledge described in the units of competency included in this course.
- On completion of the training, an RTO assessment will be conducted, this assessment will identify if the participant is ready to undergo the SafeWork NSW assessment, or if further training is required.
- To pass the SafeWork NSW assessment, all critical components must be demonstrated and answered correctly
COURSE OUTCOME
On successful completion of the SafeWork NSW assessment, participants will be given a:
- Nationally recognised statement of attainment TLILIC0040 Licence to operate a non-slewing mobile crane (greater than 3 tonnes capacity), recognised within the Australian Qualifications Framework and issued under the authority of the National Vocational Education and Regulator Act 2011
- A SafeWork NSW licence to perform high-risk work application form is to be lodged at ServiceNSW within 60 days of the completion of the assessment.
